China Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra Conductor - Dr. Artem Konstantinov
Artem Konstantinov was born in Russia and studied cello at the Glinka School in Novosibirsk and at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music. He also holds a Doctorate of Music degree from the Guildhall School of Music in London. He has won numerous prizes including first prize in the 1983 Competition of Young Cellists (Russia), first prize in the 1991 International Competition of Young Ensemble of Art (Moscow), prize winner and the silver medal in the 1995 Competition of Chamber Duets in Palma D’Ora (Italy), winner in the Russian National Cello Competition 1997. He has joined Tchaikovsky competition in 2002 and 2007. Artem has studied with great cellists:M.Rostropovitch,N.Shahovskaya,A.Rudin,L.Evgrafov, S.Popov,A.Kniazev, K.Rodin,M.Tarasova,Rocco Fillipini and many others.
Artem has made highly acclaimed performances as soloist with orchestras in Europe, Russia and Asia. In China he has premiered numerous works, including the :S.S.Prokofiev –Simfonia Concerto,Shostakovich Cello Concertos No.1 and No. 2 with the China Philharmonic Orchestra,China National Orchestra ,the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra; Bernstein’s Three Meditations with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and; Don Li Chang’s Cello Concerto,Ye Xao Gan’s Cello concerto with Hong Kong Sinfonietta. In 2011 TB.rennet(France) composed a cello concerto for Artem which has been recorded and premiered in HK in 2011. From 1999 to 2005 Artem served as the principal cellist and solist of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra. From 2005, he served as the principal cellist of CCOHK and from 2006 Artem is the guest principal cellist at HKPHO. From 2002 -2006, Artem is a Guest professor of School of Art (Shenzhen) Chamber music and cello solo classes.
